Sergio Perez says it is important for the sport to not make the F1 calendar too intense as it has started to harm the careers of drivers and mechanics involved.

With the F1 calendar getting hectic as the year goes by, it is getting intense not just for the drivers but also he mechanics involved in the game. From organisers to teams, everyone are forced to rotate their personnel to give rest to the core group.

While the rotation system is deployed but it doesn’t always involve the key personnel whether it is the drivers or the various chiefs. On top of that, travel like Las Vegas to Abu Dhabi on a back-to-back scenario is gruesome as well.

In fact, the 2024 F1 season will see a triple-header involving Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi. A lot of the drivers have opened up the calendar getting expanded and they hope that F1 doesn’t keep on adding which will depreciate the time of drivers and mechanics.

“More than other years, certainly I think this last part of the 2023 season has been super intense with the traveling backwards and forwards,” said Perez. “The amount of races is definitely at the limit, not just for the drivers, but also for all the mechanics out there. This schedule, it really has to be more efficient and try to look after everyone in this world a lot more. My main concern is with my mechanics.

“I think we just have to make sure that we keep delivering and we don’t make a lot of races for the sake of doing them. The quality level is still very important to having the score to make sure we keep this upward route. Obviously it is something that we will race it up to try and see what can be done regarding triple-header involving Las Vegas, probably now its late for 2024 but for 2025 to really try to maximise.

“I don’t remember seeing people so exhausted in a last race like I saw in Abu Dhabi. So I think it is something that we will take it very seriously because it is important for the sport, for the drivers to keep having this long careers that we seen, for the mechanics too, we want them to have long careers as well. I think it something we got to consider,” summed up Perez.
