Sergio Perez has decided to not be present for the media day in F1 Austrian GP after getting sick ahead of the grand prix.

With the media day in full swing in F1 Austrian GP, Red Bull announced the non-presence of Perez with the Mexican skipping Thursday programme after falling sick on Wednesday. The Mexican fortunately wasn’t part of the FIA Press Conference.

Perez was to attend the media in the TV Pen but has excused himself with FIA allowing it too. “Checo won’t be at the circuit today. He became unwell last night and is taking the day to rest to ensure he’s in the best possible health for this weekend’s race,” the statement said.

Time is running out for Perez in the drivers’ championship fight against Max Verstappen as a string of low-key results has put him 69 points behind the Dutchman and in the clutches of Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton.

For now, Red Bull is not too worried about Perez considering they are on course to win the constructors’ championship as they have enough at hand ahead of the likes of Aston Martin, Ferrari and Mercedes, but the pressure remains on the Mexican still.
