Pedro Acosta, rider of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, has expressed his determination to achieve his first victory in MotoGP before making his jump to the Ducati team next season. Acosta has been a prominent figure for KTM since debuting with his team last year, quickly learning from his early mistakes and becoming a regular on the podiums.
The Spanish rider started the 2026 season with a victory in the sprint race in Thailand, in addition to having reached the podium several times in Saturday and Sunday races. However, as the second half of the season approaches, his first victory in the premier category continues to elude him.
The RC16 bike, although it has shown improvements, has not been as competitive as the Ducati GP26 or the Aprilia RS-GP so far. Acosta is determinedly confident that the races scheduled for September and October will be more favorable for achieving his goal. ‘Until the end of the year, I am with KTM. I will give everything I have to achieve this first victory,’ he stated.
Acosta currently sits in seventh place in the standings, with a 60-point deficit to the championship leader, Jorge Martin. He believes that technical issues have been a significant obstacle this season, as he has had to retire on occasions from leading positions at circuits like Barcelona and Brno.
‘We should not forget all the errors and technical problems we have had in the first part of the season. Now is the time to try to improve and finish the year at the highest possible level, not just to fight for that first victory, but also to get closer to the top three positions in the championship,’ he commented.
With the upcoming British Grand Prix on the horizon, Acosta is aware that he must avoid mistakes and maintain focus. ‘I want to be realistic. We just need to concentrate on not making mistakes,’ he concluded. Acosta is confident that, with better performance, they will be able to be closer to the top of the championship before the season ends.
