Oliver Oakes has resigned from his position as Alpine F1 team principal in a shock move, as Flavio Briatore takes interim charge.

Having taken up the team principal role from Bruno Famin mid-way last year, the former Hitech GP boss Oakes has resigned from the role at Alpine in a shock move. The Brit hasn’t even completed a year in his job, but has decided to move away.

It comes at a time when Alpine is struggling to score with just the seven points in six races so far in F1 2025. There are rumours as well about Jack Doohan being dropped to make way for Franco Colapinto, who was taken up as reserve from Williams.

Oakes joins the list of team principal departures in the last few years which includes the likes of Cyril Abiteboul, Otmar Szafnauer and Famin. In the absence of the Brit, Alpine’s executive advisor Briatore will assume his work.

“BWT Alpine Formula One Team announces that Oliver Oakes has resigned from his role as Team Principal,” said a statement. “The team has accepted his resignation with immediate effect. As of today, Flavio Briatore will continue as Executive Advisor and will also be covering the duties previously performed by Oliver Oakes.

“The team would like to thank Oliver for his efforts since he joined last summer and for his contribution in helping the team secure sixth place in the 2024 Constructors’ Championship. The team will not be making any further comment.”
