The Project Rally One project is set to conduct its first test of the competition car for WRC27 this coming August, marked by a new regulation in the top rally category that will come into effect in 2027.
Founded by experts like Lionel Hansen, former director of the WRC, and Yves Matton, former head of Citroën, Project Rally One has announced its intention to design, build, and homologate a car that complies with the new specifications.
In this new phase, Project Rally One becomes one of the few teams that has committed resources to adapt to the new technical rules. Together with RMC Motorsport from Spain, they are the first to be taking the necessary steps to start their campaign in the championship.
The assembly of the first car must finish next month and, if everything develops as planned, two units will be produced before the end of the year. According to a progress report from June, the team has concluded the initial phase focused on technical studies and vehicle design.
The first tubular chassis, the team said, is in the final stage of manufacture and expects to obtain technical validation from the FIA. Additionally, the production of components for the development car is progressing satisfactorily with the aim of validating the reliability of the components before moving on to optimizing the vehicle.
The next six months will be crucial, as the team will need to follow a strict development schedule to ensure that the car is ready to compete at the highest level. Among the team members is Alain Penasse, former manager of the Hyundai team, responsible for sports management and preparing the project’s entry into the WRC.
Moreover, the well-known rally car designer Jean-Claude Vaucard has joined as the chief technical advisor, bringing his experience to a project that promises to make noise in the upcoming rally world championship season.
