The FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports has confirmed postponement of Italian GP and Catalan GP as well as the 2020 MotoGP start gets pushed to late June.

As expected, the MotoGP races in Mugello (May 29-31) and Barcelona (June 5-7) has been officially postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the 2020 start now pushed to late June 19-21 date, with the German GP at Sachsenring.

It is the unofficial Round 1 of the 2020 MotoGP season with no certainty that things will get going by then. Unlike the previous times, the promoters have not shared a revised calendar as no one is sure when and how things will get going again.

So far, only Qatar stands as a cancelled MotoGP race with rounds in America, Argentina, Spain (Jerez) and France postponed along with the latest additions of Mugello and Barcelona. It remains to be seen as to how many now joins the list.

The statement from MotoGP stated:

“The FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports regret to announce the postponement of the Gran Premio d’Italia Oakley and Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya, which were set to be held at the Autodromo del Mugello from the 29th to the 31st of May and at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya from the 5th to the 7th of June, respectively. The ongoing coronavirus outbreak has obliged the two events to be rescheduled.

“As the situation remains in a state of constant evolution, new dates for these Grands Prix, as well as the recently-postponed French and Spanish GPs, cannot be confirmed until it becomes clearer when exactly it will be possible to hold the events. A revised calendar will be published as soon as available.”
