Fabio Di Giannantonio, VR46 rider, has rejected the idea that circuits favor Aprilia or Ducati, stating that riders make the difference in the 2026 season of MotoGP. Competition has intensified between the two Italian brands, with the Aprilia RS-GP adapting better to fast corners, while the Ducati GP26 excels on circuits with stop-and-go sections.
These characteristics have led to dividing the calendar into races that could benefit one bike or the other depending on the layout. However, Di Giannantonio believes that Marc Marquez’s latest form, having achieved five victories in the last seven races, demonstrates that the circuit theory is not decisive in the title fight.
According to Di Giannantonio, ‘Looking for circuits that favor Ducati or Aprilia is a matter that particularly interests journalists. Both manufacturers have incredible riders, and whoever works better will win. Marquez is confirming this truth.’
During the first half of the season, Di Giannantonio was the standout Ducati rider, with well-founded title aspirations, but he has recently let several opportunities slip away. After his victory at the Catalonia Grand Prix in May, he has not achieved any more podiums and is now 51 points behind championship leaders Marquez and Jorge Martin.
In the last race in Misano, Di Giannantonio qualified fourth, but a poor start left him tenth after the first lap. Despite his recovery to finish in seventh place over 20 seconds behind winner Marquez, the rider remains hopeful: ‘We are showing good speed at all circuits. It’s a shame to have had a negative weekend, but we must keep our morale high. We are fourth in the championship, and we are working well.’
With the Austria GP on the horizon, Di Giannantonio hopes to get back on track and prove his competitiveness.
