The Turkish rider Toprak Razgatlioglu has directly engaged in efforts to reintegrate a MotoGP race in his home country, Turkey. Razgatlioglu, 29, has acknowledged that it will be difficult to find a spot on the calendar for 2027, but he has assured that he is working to secure a race at the Istanbul Park circuit in 2028.
This initiative comes after April’s announcement that the Turkish Grand Prix of Formula 1 will return to the calendar starting in 2027. Razgatlioglu expressed that ‘Istanbul Park is ready to race right now’ and added that discussions are already taking place to bring MotoGP back to this legendary circuit.
‘For next year, we have no opportunity to include it in the calendar. But we are talking about 2028, because we have the chance to bring MotoGP back there,’ the rider stated at a press conference before the Austrian Grand Prix. The relationship between Turkey and MotoGP is not new, as the country hosted three editions of the Turkish Grand Prix between 2005 and 2007.
With great support at home, Razgatlioglu is very likely the main draw for the public, especially considering Istanbul’s proximity, which facilitates fan access. The rider acknowledged that if a MotoGP race is realized at Istanbul Park, he will feel great pressure to deliver a good result to his fans. ‘If MotoGP comes back, I will have to show a special result,’ he added, highlighting the responsibility that comes with representing Turkey at such a significant event.
