MotoGP has informed that one COVID-19 positive result was found in their Saturday test at Brno as Pramac Racing’s Francesco Bagnaia undergoes surgery.

Having gone through with none at Jerez during the Spanish GP and also Andalucia GP, the MotoGP paddock has had one COVID-19 positive result during the Czech GP weekend at Brno. He is a Dorna Sports employee as per their statement.

The asymptomatic patient has already been isolated in his hotel room in Czech Republic, with his contacts also under isolation. Following the initial test result which came back as positive, MotoGP did another which came back as positive as well.

Fortunately, none of his contacts have tested positive after MotoGP ran a precautionary test. They also revealed of 5,500 tests in the three rounds, where they have had no case of COVID-19 till now until their first this weekend. The statement read as:

“After more than 5,500 tests performed on all paddock personnel before their attendance to the Spanish, Andalucia and Czech GPs, one person in the FIM MotoG World Championship paddock has tested positive for Covid-19.

“The result was returned during testing undertaken ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix. The person is a member of Dorna Sports’ team and is asymptomatic. Following the positive result that arrived early on Saturday, the person was immediately informed and isolated in their hotel. A further test was then undertaken in order to confirm the result.

“This second test also proved positive and therefore the staff member and all close contacts will remain in isolation. Local health authorities will now decide on the duration of self-isolation they are required to undertake. As a precautionary measure, the Championship has taken the decision to test any persons in secondary contact with the individual and each of them has returned a negative result.”

MotoGP, meanwhile, also updated about Pramac’s Bagnaia successful knee surgery. The Italian was operated by Dr. Pascarella and his team at the University Hospital Umberto I Ospedale Riuniti in Ancona, earlier in the day.

A plate fixed with some screws was inserted to stabilise the articular fracture of his right tibia as Bagnaia is scheduled to be discahrged on Monday, after which he can start his physiotherapy, with the aim to return at Misano as Michele Pirro to fill in, in Austria.
