The FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports have confirmed the postponement of the French GP as well as the 2020 MotoGP season start is further delayed.
As expected, MotoGP has confirmed that French GP has been postponed as well due to the COVID-19 outbreak as the 2020 start is further delayed. The grand prix was to take place at Bugatti Circuit in Le Mans on May 15-17 – the unofficial Round 1.
After MotoGP confirmed that the Spanish GP would be postponed, it was known that the French GP will see the same fate. The next grand prix on the calendar is the Italian GP at Mugello on May 29-31, which is more or less to be postponed as well.
The race after that is the Catalan GP on June 5-7. Unlike the previous times, MotoGP has not shared a revised calendar as things are changing every passing day due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With no real racing, they are running the Virtual Race.
The statement from MotoGP stated:
“The FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports regret to announce the postponement of the SHARK Helmets Grand Prix de France, which was set to be held at the Bugatti Circuit in Le Mans from the 15th to the 17th of May. The ongoing coronavirus outbreak has obliged the event to be rescheduled.
“As the situation remains in a state of constant evolution, new dates for the French GP and the recently-postponed Red Bull Spain Grand Prix cannot be confirmed until it becomes clearer when exactly it will be possible to hold the events. A revised calendar will be published as soon as available. “
