Marco Bezzecchi took the MotoGP pole in British GP in super wet qualifying at Silverstone from Jack Miller and Alex Marquez.
Q1:
It was wet conditions in first part of qualifying at Silverstone upon MotoGP return from summer break in British GP. The riders took it cautious but Gresini Ducati’s Fabio di Giannantonio had an early fall. He managed to continue into the pits.
Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo had a moment too which he managed to save but hampered his running. His teammate Franco Morbidelli set the pace with a 2m15.884s lap on his last attempt to make it in Q2 comfortably from GASGAS Tech3’s Augusto Fernandez.
His last lap denied Ducati’s Enea Bastianini who was third and will start 13th. Honda’s Marc Marquez was 14th from the returning Pol Esapragro in the GASGAS Tech3 machine. RNF Aprilia’s Miguel Oliveira slotted in 16th from LCR Honda’s Iker Lecuona.
Di Gianantonio was 18th after his fall with Honda’s Joan Mir 19th from RNF’s Raul Fernandez, LCR’s Takaaki Nakagami and Quartararo. The Frenchman had a disaster despite making it back from pits but he couldn’t get a clean lap to improve upon his time.
Q2:
The rain continued to fall in second part of MotoGP qualifying in British GP where KTM’s Jack Miller surprised everyone with a 2m15.629s lap out of the box where others couldn’t manage to match him despite their multiple laps after their first one.
Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia was first to crash with Gresini’s Alex Marquez and VR46 Ducati’s Luca Marini following on in slippery conditions. His teammate Marco Bezzecchi set the pace with a 2m15.359s lap to eventually take MotoGP pole in British GP.
He had a crash too in dying moments. He headed Miller and Marquez in the front row, with Bagnaia slotting in fourth. He sprinted to the pits to use the second bike but there was no time left for him to venture out again to improve on his time.
Marquez did manage to venture out but couldn’t improve on his time. Fernandez was fifth coming from Q1, with Marini in sixth from Pramac Ducati’s Jorge Martin in seventh, Aprilia’s Maverick Vinales, Pramac’s Johann Zarco, KTM’s Brad Binder, Morbidelli and Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro in the Top 12.
