Fermin Aldeguer came through to first MotoGP win in Indonesian GP, ahead of Pedro Acosta and Alex Marquez, after crash for Marc Marquez and Marco Bezzecchi.
It was another bad start from pole in MotoGP race in Indonesian GP for Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi. In a bid to make up places, he ran hard and clouted the back of Ducati’s Marc Marquez, for both to crash out. The incident was put under investigation.
The lead changed hands as KTM’s Pedro Acosta took the top spot from Honda’s Luca Marini and Gresini Ducati’s Fermin Aldeguer, with Yamaha’s Alex Rins in fourth and teammate Fabio Quartararo sixth, behind Trackhouse Aprilia’s Raul Fernandez.
Honda’s Joan Mir was seventh from Gresini’s Alex Marquez, KTM’s Brad Binder and VR46 Ducati’s Franco Morbidelli in the Top 10, ahead of the Pramac Yamaha pair of Jack Miller and Miguel Oliveira, who were fending off VR46’s Fabio di Giannantonio.
There was another fall for Mir this time. He re-started, but pitted to retire. Up front, Aldeguer cleared Marini for second and started to catch Acosta. He caught up with him and got his chance to take the Indonesian GP lead. The KTM rider tried to come at Turn 1, but went wide.
He dropped off in the clutches of Marini and Fernandez. Rins steadied in fifth, as Quartararo came under pressure from A Marquez. The Gresini eventually managed to clear him for sixth, as Binder was close behind in eighth from Miller and Oliveira.
Morbidelli was 11th from di Giannantonio, with LCR Honda’s Johann Zarco 13th, Tech 3 KTM’s Enea Bastianini 14th and LCR’s Somkiat Chantra in 15th – the last of the runner. After Aldeguer took the lead, he stormed off to over five seconds lead midway in the race.
Acosta came under pressure from Marini, Fernandez, Rins, Marquez and Quartararo, in the fight for second. Marini got through Acosta couple of times, but the KTM rider got back through. Fernandez tried the move on Marini but the two made contact to drop off.
Marini lost the big chunk to be eighth, as Rins moved up to third from Marquez, Fernandez, Quartararo and Binder in the Top 7. At the back, Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia crashed out in the final corner, while Bastianini retired due to potential mechanical issue.
Rins picked up pace to get through Acosta on Lap 19 as Marquez tried to hustle through as well. He eventually did to take third and pressed further on Rins to make it a Gresini 1-2 with five laps remaining. Acosta managed to pass Rins for third, as the Yamaha rider dropped back.
He was sixth allowing Binder to fourth from Fernandez. In fact, Marini took sixth from Quartararo, as Rins dropped to the fag end of the Top 10. Miller had a fall but managed to continue, with points on offer. Second place, meanwhile, changed hands again.
Acosta came back on Marquez to take second, with Binder in fourth from Marini after he passed Fernandez. At the front, Aldeguer dominated proceedings to secure first MotoGP win in Indonesian GP by 8.128s margin over Acosta, with Marquez rounding the Top 3 – who also secured the independent riders’ title.
Binder came through to fourth from Marini, with Fernandez in sixth, Quartararo seventh, Morbidelli eighth, di Giannantonio ninth and Rins rounding the Top 10. Oliveira was 11th from Zarco, Chantra and Miller in the Top 14 points places.
Both M Marquez and Bezzecchi were taken to the medical center. The Spaniard will fly back home after fracture to right collarbone. As a result of today’s crash at Indonesian GP, Marc Marquez has suffered an injury to his right collarbone. The Spanish rider will travel tonight to Madrid (Spain) for further medical tests and to decide on the treatment to follow,” said Ducati in a statement.
