Petronas SRT Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo ended MotoGP Sepang test on top for the third consecutive day as Honda’s Marc Marquez had another crash.

It was a clean sweep for Quartararo (1m58.349s) in the first MotoGP pre-season test at Sepang circuit, with the Petronas SRT rider ending on top from LCR Honda’s Cal Crutchlow by just 0.082s. Suzuki’s Alex Rins was the third quickest.

Pramac Ducati’s Francesco Bagania was fourth, to make it four different manufacturers in the Top 4 as Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi was fifth ahead of Ducati’s Danilo Petrucci. In seventh was KTM’s Pol Espargaro as his brother Aleix was ninth abode Aprilia.

Pramac’s Jack Miller was sandwiched in eighth as Suzuki’s Joan Mir rounded out the Top 10. Among the top-end riders, Yamaha had plenty of new parts on their MotoGP bikes, from Ducati-like holeshot to different fairings, all spread among their regular and test riders.

Aprilia, meanwhile, pushed itself with race run to check its new engine via Aleix. It started off well but exhaust issue cut short the trial. Tech 3 KTM’s Miguel Olivera lined-up 11th with Honda’s Marquez in 12th after his day was cut short due to a fall at Turn 3.

This was his second crash in two days. While Quartararo headed the standings, teammate Franco Morbidelli was 13th from Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso as Avintia’s Ducati’s Johann Zarco finished 15th, after finding almost a second from Day 1 to Day 3.

Honda’s Alex Marquez was the top MotoGP rookie again in 16th as KTM’s Brad Binder finished 17th from Yamaha’s Maverick Vinales and Avintia’s Tito Rabat. Yamaha’s MotoGP test rider Jorge Lorenzo – on his second day abode the 2019 M1 – ended up 20th.

Aprilia test rider Bradly Smith was 21st from LCR Honda’s Takaaki Nakagami, who had a tough run again, with Tech 3’s Iker Lecuona in 23rd from Suzuki test rider Sylvain Guintoli, KTM test rider Mika Kallio and two Yamaha test riders rounding out 27 runners.
