MotoGP 2019: Vinales ends Qatar test on top from Quartararo

Yamaha’s Maverick Vinales completed a sound Qatar MotoGP test by topping the final day ahead of Petronas Yamaha SRT’s Fabio Quartararo.

After topping Day 1 and missing on Day 2, Vinales was back on the top step on the final day of Qatar test at Losail International Circuit with a best time of 1m54.208s with 50 laps to his name as MotoGP rookie Quartararo (1m54.441s) did well to be second.

The Petronas Yamaha SRT rider finished third on Day 2 and did one better on Day 3 with 48 laps to his kitty. Reigning MotoGP champion Honda’s Marc Marquez (1m54.613s) finally set a better lap to be third overall with 53 laps in all which included a fall.

Even Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi (1m54.651s) was in the mood to finish fourth as Honda’s Jorge Lorenzo (1m54.653s) ended up fifth despite a late fall at Turn 2 for the Spaniard – the duo completed 38 and 33 laps respectively.

With Franco Morbidelli (1m54.660s) in sixth, it meant all the Yamaha riders featured in the Top 6 as the Italian completed 61 laps to finish ahead of KTM’s Pol Espargaro (1m54.770s) and LCR Honda’s Takaaki Nakagami (1m54.789s).

Espargaro undertook 37 laps to Nakagami’s 50. Behind them, the Top 10 was rounded out by Ducati’s Danilo Petrucci (1m54.818s) and Pramac Ducati’s Jack Miller (1m54.851s) with 43 and 47 laps respectively.

Suzuki’s Alex Rins (1m54.852s) finished 11th with 41 laps which included a fall as teammate Joan Mir (1m54.997s) was 12th from another two riders to have crashed, Pramac’s Francesco Bagnaia (1m55.074s) and Avintia Ducati’s Tito Rabat (1m55.229s).

Mir undertook 38 laps with Bagnaia 47 and Rabat 66. Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso (1m55.233s) was 15th with Aprilia’s Andrea Iannone (1m55.343s) 16th from two fallers LCR Honda’s Cal Crutchlow (1m55.690s) and Tech 3 KTM’s Miguel Oliveira (1m55.773s).

Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro (1m55.814s) finished 19th ahead of tester Bradley Smith (1m56.072s), who also had a fall, as Avintia Ducati’s Karel Abraham (1m56.121s) was 21st from KTM’s Johann Zarco (1m56.162s) and Tech 3 KTM’s Hafizh Syahrin (1m56.371s).

In terms of laps, Esparagro did 54 to Smith’s 38, followed by Abraham doing 50, Zarco 42 along with Syahrin – although the struggling Frenchman also had a crash like the other riders in the day.
