The Automobile Club de Monaco has dismissed speculations of the 2021 F1 Monaco GP getting axed due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Amid speculations that grand prix like Monaco GP (May 20-23), Azerbaijan GP (June 4-6) and Canadian GP (June 11-13) getting axed from the 2021 F1 calendar, the ACM has dismissed the news, re-affirming that the race will happen on its scheduled date.
The COVID-19 restrictions continues all around the globe like 2020 and so speculations of multiple 2021 F1 races not happening arose at the time when it was announced that Bahrain GP will be the season-opener, with the postponement of Australian GP.
The Melbourne race will take place in November after Brazil and before Saudi Arabia, while the future of the Chinese GP is yet to be ascertained. There is still a TBA for May 2 as well, as F1 announced Imola to host a grand prix on a new April 18 date.
The ACM not only dismissed F1 Monaco GP rumours but also clarified that the Formula E race will continue on as well on May 8. “Despite the latest rumors circulating on certain websites and social media, the ACM can confirm that the Monaco GP will take place from May 20th to 23rd, 2021,” said a statement.
“The ACM also confirms the Grand Prix Monaco Historique (April 23rd-25th 2021) and the Monaco EPrix (May 8th 2021).” All of the three F1 grand prix did not take place in 2020, but made it on the 2021 calendar – while ACM has spoken on it, the other two are silent.
In fact, on Canadian GP side, there are multiple reports and stories of fans not being repaid for their cancelled 2020 ticket. The same was seen for the cancelled 2020 Vietnam GP too. It remains to be seen how the 2021 calendar shapes up amid continued restrictions.
