Miami GP F1 circuit nears completion with 95% of work done

The Miami GP circuit is near completion with 95 percent of work done ahead of its debut which is only weeks away from now.

There is only one grand prix that remains before the debut of Miami GP on May 6-8 weekend. Post this weekend’s Imola race, the F1 circus will have one week break to head to the United States of America for the first time in 2022.

This will be also their first trip to Miami where the construction of the new 5.41km circuit is nearing completion after the organisers released new details. The permanent structures like Pit Building, Garages and Race Control Tower are mostly done after the final asphalt laying was completed in March 2022 – for the work that started in April 2021.

The release notes of 24,000 tons of asphalt laid since then, with the circuit needing about 1,130 tons of concrete. They have about 2,870 Geobrugg blocks installed with 118 in place along the pit wall, with 37,000 feet of concrete barriers and debris fences also put in.

There are also 14 pedestrian bridges built up for an easy access to the various stands. With only weeks remaining for the first-ever F1 Miami GP, the focus now will be on the temporary work like painting and fencing around the Hard Rock Stadium.

“We’re in the final stages of this incredible circuit that will host the first-ever Formula 1 race in Miami,” says Richard Cregan of Miami GP. “We are delighted with the progress we have made and it’s a huge credit to the hard work of the team here in Miami, in consultation with both Formula 1 and the FIA to get this circuit finished in a tight timeline.

“We have tried to create a track that drivers love to race on and a campus that offers unique, best-in-class fan experiences; and we can’t wait for the first weekend in May to be here has been no compromise on any aspect of the circuit design or quality of construction.

“In my experience of working with new venues over the years, I’ve never seen as much effort on perfecting the surface of the track as we have done in Miami. Everything was exactly per the design, and everyone involved in construction has done an incredible job.”

While they are preparing for the grand prix, court cases continue on the sidelines with select group still pushing on to disallow the F1 race to happen on the grounds of noise pollution and local community facing difficulties due to close proximity of the circuit.
