The McLaren LMDh prototype, named MCL-HY, conducted its first test session at the Autodromo Riccardo Paletti in Italy, as part of its preparation for the FIA World Endurance Championship debut in 2027.
The circuit, located near the headquarters of chassis supplier Dallara in Varano de’ Melegari, was chosen for this important initial test. Just at 10:00 on Monday, the prototype was revealed with its new orange livery, while the V6 twin-turbo engine, manufactured by ATM-AutoTecnica Motori, was started for the first time in the pit lane.
Danish driver Mikkel Jensen, McLaren’s first signing for the Hypercar category, completed the vehicle’s first laps. “We finished the day with the car here in Italy. We followed the test plan, mainly system checks to ensure that the transmission, engine, and all systems were functioning correctly,” Jensen commented.
Furthermore, the McLaren team, led by endurance team director James Barclay, emphasized that this is a historic moment for the brand, which in the past has excelled in motorsport competitions. “This year 2026 we will dedicate to testing and developing the car, preparing to face world-class competition in the World Endurance Championship and at the 24 Hours of Le Mans,” Barclay added.
As the program progresses, McLaren hopes to contend for a prominent position in the standings with the MCL-HY, a car that symbolizes the brand’s return to the highest levels of motorsport.
