Maximo Quiles has achieved the title in the Moto3 category for the 2026 season, thanks to a decisive victory at the Indonesian Grand Prix held on Sunday.
The CF Moto Aspar team rider arrived in Mandalika with a 127-point lead over his closest rival, David Almansa. Other competitors like Alvaro Carpe and Brian Uriarte were also in the running for the championship.
A decisive victory
Quiles only needed to maintain a 125-point difference at the end of the race to secure the title, following in the footsteps of Jose Antonio Rueda, who also conquered the championship at this same circuit last year.
In the preliminary qualifying, the title rivals occupied the top three positions, with Uriarte on pole, followed by Almansa and Carpe. Quiles, for his part, qualified in sixth position.
Dominating from the start
As soon as the race began, Quiles quickly moved up to third position and, shortly after, passed Uriarte to take second place, then overtook Almansa in the first corner to lead the race.
From that moment on, his superiority became evident, opening a two-second gap in the first six laps. Ultimately, he crossed the finish line with a 2.9-second advantage, thus achieving his tenth grand prix victory of the season. His victory gives him a 132-point lead in the overall standings, setting a new record in the history of Moto3 by securing the championship with five races still to run.
Future prospects
Almansa finished in a comfortable second position, while Matteo Bertelle secured third place. Uriarte, who was close to reaching the podium, finished fourth, losing his chance after Carpe’s fall with ten laps to go.
This triumph marks another success for Quiles, 16 years after his mentor, Marc Marquez, won the 125cc title in 2010. Max Quiles is expected to move to Moto2 in 2027, continuing with the Aspar team.
