Nobuharu Matsushita has switched to MP Motorsport for 2020 FIA Formula 2 (F2) Championship, to complete its driver line-up.
For Matsushita, it will be his fifth GP2/F2 season as he switches to MP Motorsport from Carlin Racing in 2020 alongside rookie Felipe Drugovich. It is the first time in his career where he will race for the Dutch outfit after competing with ART/Carlin.
It is unclear if Matsushita has shed his Honda junior status as he was not named in their list but it is likely the end as there is no mention of the Japanese manufacturer in the release and the tee he is wearing has no logo of the company either.
“I’m excited to join MP for a fresh assault on the FIA F2 Championship,” said Matsushita, upon the announcement. “I’m convinced that together we will be able to create a package that will surprise all our rivals on the grid.
“Also, I hope that Felipe’s raw speed will spur me on to extract the best from myself in my efforts to add more victories to my FIA F2 win tally.” Team manager Sander Dorsman added: “It’s great news that Nobu will be part of our team in 2020.
“In the past seasons, you could always count on him being up there fighting for the points and the wins, and I’m certain that his experience will help the team thrive in its search for success. He’s won in every F2 season that he competed in.
“And of course I’m hoping for this trend to continue in 2020! Also, Nobu will be a formidable yardstick for Felipe going into his debut season in FIA F2.” With this, the only seats remaining is one at Carlin and one at Trident – although the latter is yet to confirm Roy Nissany for one of its seat.
