Joshua Mason will replace Brad Benavides at PHM Charouz for this weekend’s FIA F2 race weekend at Spa-Francorchamps.
Joshua Mason will step up to FIA Formula 2 for Round 11 at Spa-Francorchamps, replacing Brad Benavides at PHM Racing by Charouz. The team confirmed that the Briton will make his F2 debut having been competing in the Euroformula Open Championship this season, scoring one win and two podiums in the two rounds he’s raced in.
Starting his single-seater career in 2018, Mason competed in MRF Challenge Formula 2000 Championship and British F3, taking his maiden victory in the final round at Silverstone. Two further campaigns in British F3 followed where he scored a best finish of 12th in the Standings in 2019, achieving one win and a further two podiums that year.
From there, the 21-year-old stepped up to the Euroformula Open Championship for the 2021 and 2022 campaigns, finishing fifth in the Standings last year with three wins and a further four podiums.
“It’s a mix of emotions – excited, nervous and all the emotions are flowing through,” said Mason. “To jump into Formula 2 around Spa in the wet means there’s quite a lot being thrown at me, but I’m looking forward to get started with PHM Racing by Charouz.”
Team Manager Bob Vavrik added: “We are happy to welcome Josh Mason in our team for Spa. It will be a tough wet weekend for him as a rookie driver and the team in the current condition at this track. We are going through the whole process to prepare the driver for such a big step to FIA Formula 2.”
