Honda’s Marc Marquez feels his 2019 MotoGP season is the best he has had in his career so far considering the challenge he has had against multiple manufacturers.
Even though the likes of Ducati, Yamaha and Suzuki weren’t up to the challenge of Honda as consistently they would have liked to but Marquez had to still beat their riders to eventually clinch his eighth world championship and sixth MotoGP title.
It looked like that Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso will finally get his hands on the championship, while Suzuki’s Alex Rins started to look as a dark horse but as the season progressed, there was no beating the Honda and more importantly, Marquez.
The Spaniard had the title in his bag in Thai GP with four races still to go as the fight for second is on between multiple riders. It was a dominant show but not like 2014, where he had 10 wins in a row as he feels the current title was more of a hard work.
“This is my best season in MotoGP,” said Marquez. “True, I had 10 wins in a row and 13 wins in all in 2014, but honestly speaking the difference between the bikes was greater. Now we have at least four different manufacturers capable of winning.
“There were races where I fought against Ducatis, others against Suzuki and some against Yamahas but the most amazing this is that I have been in front. If you look at my advantage in the standings, you could that it was easy but managing the pressure when everyone expects you to make mistakes and wants to beat you, is not at all simple.
“You cannot understand the work I did at home and how many times I have stopped myself from falling. We try to improve every year but it will be difficult to do it after this season. Besides my fall in Austin, I have always finished first or second.”
Marquez thanked Honda and all his team members, whether at the track and or the factory for the help in achieving the targets they set out at the start of the season. With him now close to Valentino Rossi’s titles, Marquez feels he is driven by show and not numbers.
He feels, he should be known for the show and not the titles he won, which will be the add-on. Looking at the future, Marquez wants to end the jinx in the next race by winning it as he hasn’t won a race ever after securing the MotoGP title.
