Marc Márquez has secured pole position at the Hungarian Grand Prix, surpassing pre-qualification favorite Pedro Acosta. The KTM rider led much of the session, but Márquez shone with two quick laps at the end of qualifying, thus consolidating his perfect record at the Balaton Park circuit.
Fermín Aldeguer locked in the first row for Gresini, while Marco Bezzecchi, the current championship leader, was the first from the Aprilia team, qualifying in sixth place.
From the start of the session, Acosta showed his form, clocking a time of 1’37.419s, but quickly improved his mark on the next lap. At the same time, Ducati suffered an early setback, as both Márquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio fell on the first corner just seconds apart.
Both bikes were able to restart, and Márquez, in no time, was already in second position, overtaking Raúl Fernández. At this moment, Bezzecchi was in eighth place, over half a second behind Acosta.
In the last part of the session, with new tires, Acosta made the first lap under 1’37s, setting a new benchmark. While it seemed that Acosta had a decisive advantage, Márquez surprised everyone with his time of 1’36.791s, taking the lead.
Acosta tried to react with a time of 1’36.838s, but Márquez finished his qualifying by improving his time, thus securing his pole position. This has been Márquez’s first pole of the season, who also had set the best time at the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez.
Aldeguer continued in good form to secure a spot on the first row, while Di Giannantonio qualified fourth. Francesco Bagnaia, who moved from Q1 to Q2, achieved a commendable fifth place, turning four Ducatis into the top five positions.
Despite an initial good form, the Aprilia team fell behind in qualifying, with Bezzecchi in sixth position, followed by Fernández and Jorge Martín. Additionally, Honda rider Luca Marini, coming from Q1, overtook his teammate Ai Ogura.
The group of the first twelve was completed by rookie Diogo Moreira from LCR and Jack Miller from Pramac. Joan Mir started well in qualifying but ultimately fell short of provisional Q2 spots, qualifying in thirteenth place. His performance left him on the fifth row alongside Enea Bastianini and Fabio Quartararo.
For his part, Iker Lecuona returned to MotoGP, qualifying in seventeenth position with his Gresini Ducati, while Brad Binder from KTM was involved in a late crash at corner 12, finishing in seventeenth position. Toprak Razgatlioglu and Franco Morbidelli qualified in eighteenth and nineteenth positions respectively, at the very back of the grid.
