The practice session of the Australia MotoGP Grand Prix was affected by an incident between Alex Marquez and Marco Bezzecchi, which led to its interruption. Marquez criticized Bezzecchi for having ‘miscalculated’ a maneuver during the session.

In the first minutes of the session, Bezzecchi tried to overtake Marquez at turn 3 but ended up colliding with him after slightly veering off. This collision caused the Italian rider to lose part of his bike and fall at turn 4, with his right leg trapped under the bike.

Fortunately, Bezzecchi did not suffer serious injuries and was able to return to the garage, but race control was forced to throw a red flag to clean the track.

Marquez, while trying to remain calm during the press conference after the incident, maintained that he could not avoid the collision. ‘I was at the front, following my normal line. It seems to me that he wanted to overtake me because he was faster, but he miscalculated. Nothing serious happened, so all is well,’ he explained.

On the other hand, Bezzecchi commented that the weather conditions complicated maneuvers on the track, as the wind at Phillip Island is notoriously unpredictable. ‘I wanted to avoid it, but the wind made the maneuver difficult,’ he acknowledged.

Despite the incident, Bezzecchi managed to clock the best time of the day, contributing to a notable 1-2-4-5 for the Aprilia team. Marquez, for his part, fell at the same turn during his final solo attack but managed to qualify for Q2 with an earlier time that left him in sixth position.

The Gresini Racing rider admitted that he still finds it challenging both physically and mentally, especially after his shoulder injury during an incident with Pedro Acosta. ‘I fell in the best place to fall in Australia, at turn 4,’ he said ironically, acknowledging that physical conditions impact during the final laps.
