Ducati rider Marc Márquez has expressed his goal for the Australian Grand Prix, which will take place this weekend at Phillip Island. Although this circuit is considered favorable for the competing brand Aprilia, Márquez is determined to achieve “the maximum possible 37 points”.
Currently, the MotoGP champion is in an intense title fight with Jorge Martín, with only two points separating them before heading into the last five races of the season. Márquez has experienced a remarkable increase in his performance, recovering from an unfavorable position in the standings.
So far, he has achieved five double victories in the last ten competitions, a feat that only Martín has repeated this season, highlighting the competition between both riders.
While he hopes Aprilia performs well at Phillip Island, where Raúl Fernández won on a satellite bike last year, Márquez is optimistic about his chances. “I really like this circuit, but it is true that Aprilia was already fast here last year and will be again this year”, the rider declared.
Márquez adds that the important thing is to surpass Martín to score more points in this and the other four remaining grand prix races. “My intention is to score more points than Jorge in all remaining races”, he explained. In addition to Martín, he also emphasized Marco Bezzecchi, another rival to keep in mind.
Phillip Island will be replaced on the MotoGP calendar next year and is known for its unpredictable weather, with forecasts anticipating rain and strong winds for the competition days. Regarding the impact of weather conditions, Márquez has acknowledged that “it will be a challenge for everyone”, but emphasized the importance of staying focused day by day. “The most important thing is to concentrate on each day, especially on Friday’s qualifying”, he commented.
