Journalist Marc Márquez, current MotoGP champion, had to face two surgeries this Sunday after an accident during the weekend of the French Grand Prix in Le Mans. The Ducati rider suffered a fracture in one foot during a fall that forced him to withdraw from the competition.
After returning to Spain on Saturday night, Márquez was admitted to a hospital in Madrid, where doctors performed two simultaneous operations. The first surgery involved repairing the fracture of the metatarsal in his right foot, resulting from his accident in the second-to-last lap of the race.
The second operation addressed a pre-existing issue in his right arm, where two screws had dislodged as a result of a collision with Aprilia rider, Marco Bezzecchi, during last year’s Indonesian Grand Prix. This procedure had been scheduled to be performed the week after the Catalonia Grand Prix, but had not been made public before his accident.
After being discharged, Márquez will begin his rehabilitation at home. Currently, he is ruled out from participating in next week’s Catalonia Grand Prix, and his return to the Italian Grand Prix, scheduled for May 31, will depend on his recovery process.
The Ducati Lenovo Team has issued an official statement indicating that Márquez is at the Ruber Internacional Hospital in Madrid, where the double surgery was successfully performed.
After this incident, Márquez has fallen to seventh place in the overall standings, with 71 points fewer than the championship leader, Bezzecchi.
