Kevin Magnussen is unsure about his tenure at Haas with contract discussions yet to be done between him and Guenther Steiner.
As the season pushes towards its end, the silly season will kick-off for drivers without contracts in place for 2024. Haas’ Magnussen is one of them and interestingly the Dane is unsure about retaining his seat with the discussions yet to take place with Steiner.
His performances has dipped this year against Nico Hulkenberg, where the German has nine points to the Dane’s two this year. In fact, Steiner has noted about the difference too. “Logically, Kevin knows that he has to catch up with Nico,” he said.
“At the moment Nico is just better. Kevin has no problem admitting that either.” Earlier in the season, Steiner noted about giving 5-6 races to Magnussen which has elapsed. Ahead of the summer break, the Dane left the question about his contract as a 50-50 scene.
“We’ll see when it happens and how that pans out,” said Magnussen. “I think at the moment there’s not any news to bring and eventually we’ll come around to it. I don’t really know what’s going on. I feel like the team is pretty happy but you never know with these things and I’ll take it one day at a time.
“Both me and Guenther know that my contract expires at the end of the year, so of course there will be negotiations. When they will take place or whether they are happening already is not something I will expand on before something concrete appears. But if I want to race next year, then I need to sign a new contract. I’m not too worried about this, since there were no problems with it before,” summed up Magnussen.
