The new circuit in Madrid has been named as ‘MADRING’ after it revealed its new identity ahead of the F1 shift from 2026 onward.
The circuit initially centered on ‘Ifema Madrid Circuit’, considering its close proximity with the Ifema Exhibition center. But on Tuesday, the promoters revealed its new name to be ‘MADRING’, which denotes ‘Madrid’ and ‘Ring’ being merged together to form the name.
They have used ‘ring’ since the racing circuits around the globe is referred to the word ring. The circuit aligns itself to places like Abu Dhabi, Miami and Las Vegas, where the event transcends the whole city. The promoters further explained the reasoning behind the change.
“Formula 1 circuits are typically referred to by the city or region where they are located—Monza, Imola, Interlagos, Spa, Silverstone, Miami, Las Vegas,” it said. “However, their full official names are rarely used. For this reason, MADRING aims to establish a concise and memorable identity that directly references its host city, is instantly recognisable worldwide, and requires no translation.
“Ultimately, it is more than just a name—it is a genuine, distinctive, and iconic brand, designed to resonate with a modern and engaged F1 audience. The MADRING identity has been carefully designed to be modern and instantly recognisable, aligning with Formula 1’s visual aesthetics. The flowing lines of its logo echo the curves of a racing circuit, adding a sense of dynamism and speed.
“The typography reflects the essence of racing, excitement, and movement, while the chosen colour scheme reinforces its strong connection to F1 and Madrid, where ‘red, symbolising passion, Formula 1, and the Community of Madrid’ and ‘yellow, paying homage to the Spanish flag’.”
The promoters will reveal the 5.474 km layout in parts every Monday and Thursday, where it will explain the story behind the corners. The first one is revealed to be ‘El Parque’, which are the last two corners of the circuit near the IFEMA pavilions 14 and 12.
The MADRING circuit will host the Spanish GP from 2026 onward until 2035, where the track will also host the F2 and F3 competitions. As of now, the Barcelona circuit has a contract in place to host a grand prix in 2026 as well, which will make for two Spanish events next year.
