F1 together with the FIA has officially approved the entry of Cadillac team from 2026 season onward after years of determination.

Having been principally accepted and even rejected to be the 11th F1 team from 2026 onward, Cadillac has been formally accepted by the governing body and commercial rights owner, to start as a new outfit from next year onward.

The team entered as Andretti Cadillac, who were selected by the FIA from the seven entries. Their proposal was initially rejected but entry from 2028 with General Motors wasn’t ruled out. The communication was maintained despite last year’s rejection.

In the meantime, TWG Motorsport came into fray as Andretti was dropped and the team got rebranded to Cadillac. This paved way for them to be officially approved to join the F1 grid from 2026 onward – become the first new outfit since Haas did in 2016.

Interestingly, both teams hail from America, where the sport wishes to expand to. Cadillac will start out as a Ferrari customer after inking a deal, with General Motors gearing up to enter the sport as a power unit manufacturer between 2028 and 2030.

“The FIA and Formula 1 can confirm that, following the completion of their respective sporting, technical and commercial assessments, the application by General Motors and TWG Motorsports to bring a Cadillac team to the FIA Formula One World Championship from 2026 has been approved,” said a small statement.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem added: “Today marks a transformative moment, and I am proud to lead the Federation in this progressive step for the championship. The FIA Formula One Championship’s expansion to an 11th team in 2026 is a milestone.

“GM/Cadillac brings fresh energy, aligning with the new FIA 2026 regulations and ushering in an exciting era for the sport. GM/Cadillac’s presence in the paddock will inspire future competitors and fans. Their entry strengthens our mission to push motorsport’s boundaries at the highest level.”
