Norman Nato benefited from a time penalty awarded to Charles Leclerc to win the sprint race in Baku. Nicholas Latifi completed the podium.
Ralph Boschung started from reverse grid pole ahead of Oliver Rowland and Jordan King. Boschung started poorly and got passed by Rowland at T2. The Swiss then made a mistake on lap 3 and was 4th behind Nato and Latifi. The strong man of the early stages was Nyck De Vries who reached the provisional podium after 6 laps.
At the front of the race, Rowland faced gearbox issues which forced him to retire. Nato claimed race lead. Charles Leclerc managed to overtake Markelov on lap 9. De Vries, 2nd at the time, had to retire as well. The Monegasque recovered 5 places within 3 laps to the provisional podium halfway through the race.
On lap 13, Latifi got passed by Leclerc for P2. While the Monegasque was coming back on Nato, he got a 10s penalty for not having slowed down enough under yellow flags. He still overtook the Frenchman and crossed the line first with 12s of advance on Latifi.
Norman Nato took his third career win ahead of Charles Leclerc and Nicholas Latifi. King, Sirotkin, Markelov, Matushita, Ghiotto and Boschung completed the top 10.
