KTM has confirmed the signing of Alex Marquez to join the official MotoGP team starting in the 2027 season. With this announcement, the Austrian manufacturer continues its restructuring following the Concorde agreement, which has allowed for the assurance of future entries in the competition.
Marquez, who finished second in the 2025 MotoGP World Championship, will leave behind his four-year stint with Gresini Racing, where he has achieved four victories and regained his path in the category after a challenging period with Honda.
The new signing for KTM comes after the team’s star, Pedro Acosta, has decided to join Ducati in 2027. Marquez’s qualities have been highlighted by the team, which trusts him to help develop the bikes for the new era of 850cc.
KTM’s motorsport director, Pit Beirer, has expressed his satisfaction in securing a rider with the skills and winning mentality of Alex Marquez, who fits perfectly with the team’s goal of advancing the KTMR RC16 to a new level of competitiveness.
Marquez, who is recovering from a series of injuries, will start his eighth season in the premier class in 2027, after competing with three different manufacturers: Honda, Ducati, and now KTM.
Additionally, KTM is likely to announce the signing of Fabio Di Giannantonio soon, who will leave his current Ducati to join the Austrian team.
Despite future plans, KTM still has to resolve some immediate technical issues. Last year, the company overcame a financial crisis thanks to the support of Bajaj, but now the paddock department is facing a recurring problem that causes the unexpected shutdown of MotoGP prototypes due to excessive vibrations that trigger the emergency mode of the electronic control unit.
This issue had consequences during the Catalonia Grand Prix, when Acosta’s bike lost power, creating a dangerous situation that Marquez could not avoid.
