Kimi Antonelli, current leader of the Formula 1 drivers’ championship, has confirmed his presence at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where he made his first appearance at this celebrated competition. This experience adds to an intense week that included the British Grand Prix, a visit to Wimbledon, and tire testing at Silverstone.
The Italian driver shared his excitement as he took to the stage in the Pirelli fan zone, where he confessed that he did not follow the instructions to take it easy during his first run up the famous Goodwood course. ‘I was told to go slow, but obviously, I didn’t listen to them,’ Antonelli commented with a smile. ‘I just tried to give my best, and it was a magnificent experience.’
After his first run at Goodwood, Antonelli did not hesitate to express his desire to come back next year. ‘This is my first time here, and unfortunately, I have to go home tonight, but I will definitely return next year. I hope to enjoy the weekend and the experience more, because it’s a spectacular place with so many fascinating race cars, it’s really the heart of motorsport.’
The Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed at Goodwood
For this occasion, Antonelli experienced driving the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed, a model designed for the brand’s new Mythos series. This vehicle, which pays homage to the aesthetics of Formula 1, features a design without a roof or windshield, replaced by a halo inspired by motorsport. The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine provides a torque of 800Nm and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds, with a top speed of 315 km/h. This exclusivity is reflected in the fact that only 250 units of the PureSpeed have been produced.
Additionally, the two aerodynamically designed cascades that accompany the vehicle allow for communication between the driver and passenger, while providing a unique sound experience.
Notable participants at the Festival
In addition to Antonelli, other Formula 1 drivers present at the event included Frederik Vesti, Lando Norris, Yuki Tsunoda, and Pierre Gasly, among others. The Goodwood Festival of Speed has once again proven to be an emblematic space for drivers, fans, and vehicles of all kinds, making it an unmissable date on the motorsport calendar.
