Kalle Rovanpera, two-time world rally champion, has shared updates about his return to the motorsport world after a recovery period. Rovanpera declared himself fit to resume his career after a medical issue that frustrated his plans to participate in races this year.
Recently, the Finnish driver made a brief visit to the Rally Estonia, taking the opportunity to attend the opening ceremony and Friday’s shakedown. This has been the first time Rovanpera has attended a World Rally Championship (WRC) event since the last round of last season at the Rally Saudi Arabia.
Rovanpera notes that this competition holds a special place for him, as he achieved his first WRC victory there in 2021, thus becoming the youngest driver to win a round in the championship’s history. The driver achieved additional successes at this event in his championship-winning seasons of 2022 and 2023.
Despite a medical issue forcing the 25-year-old driver to postpone his participation in the Super Formula season in Japan, Rovanpera has been keeping an eye on the WRC’s evolution and has become a mentor to his friend and former teammate, Takamoto Katsuta.
After his recent visit to the Rally Estonia, Rovanpera expressed: ‘It was nice to see the teams and the rally atmosphere; in fact, this is the first time I’ve been at an event this year.’ Toyota, for its part, announced that Rovanpera has resumed physical training and is preparing a plan to return to competition.
His goal is to return to competitive racing in 2027. Rovanpera comments: ‘I’m progressing slowly and I’m happy to be back. I don’t know what my next steps will be, but they will surely be interesting.’
