The FIA has announced a series of changes for the Junior WRC in 2027 with the aim of making the competition more accessible and attractive for young drivers. The category will compete in five events of the WRC, focusing exclusively on Europe, with tests in Sweden, Croatia, Italy, Finland, and Scotland.
One of the main novelties is the expansion of the prize for the champion, which will now include a program of seven events of the WRC2 for 2028, compared to the four events that were previously offered. Furthermore, the double scoring round has been eliminated, and final scores will be calculated based on the best four results of each team throughout the season.
Additionally, Hankook will provide a set of free tires for participants, a measure aimed at reducing entry costs for the competition. Malcolm Wilson, FIA’s sports vice president, emphasized the importance of these improvements to ensure that the Junior WRC remains a leading training program for young talents in the rally world.
The renewed format aims not only to increase competitiveness but also to facilitate access for future drivers at the international level. Participation in the final event in Scotland will be mandatory for those wishing to be classified in the championship.
