Jorge Martín, rider of the Aprilia team, has prepared to face the weekend of the Malaysian Grand Prix with a broken arm, despite expecting it to be “really difficult” and “very painful” to compete in the MotoGP category.
After suffering an accident during the Australian Grand Prix, Martín has followed an intense recovery program alongside his physiotherapist, which includes treatment for the fracture of the radius in his right arm.
Signing and Preparation
On Thursday, the rider achieved the first step when MotoGP doctor Ángel Charte declared him fit to participate in the first practice session (FP1). However, he will need to undergo more medical tests on Friday before he can race at the Sepang International Circuit.
Arriving at the circuit with an orthosis around his right wrist, Martín acknowledged that he does not feel fully recovered, stating that he cannot even brush his teeth with his right hand.
The Fight for the Title
Despite his condition, Martín considers it essential to try to participate in the race to keep his dream of fighting for the title against Marc Márquez, rider of Ducati, alive. “I feel that I’m okay, surely I could be worse, but I could also be better,” Martín stated. “We will see my condition, my feeling, and then we will decide what to do next”.
The current situation complicates his options, as he is currently 10 points behind the leader, Márquez, in the championship standings. Martín has made it clear that his focus is on recovering and not so much on the fight for the title, expressing that he will limit himself to thinking about his next race: “I only think about trying to race. I do not think about the championship”.
Reflections on the Crash
Recalling the incident at Phillip Island, Martín noted that although he enjoyed the duel with Márquez, the conditions of his bike were not optimal. “My bike was shaking a lot during the race. I don’t know why, but even during the warm-up lap, I felt that something was moving a lot.” Now he hopes to see how far he can get in his recovery and how it will affect his ability to race this weekend.
