Joan Mir, Honda HRC rider, has opened up about his 2026 season, marked by a series of crashes and an illness that kept him off the track for four races. Mir has confirmed that he is now clear about what was happening with him prior to this long absence.
After not competing in four occasions, the Spanish rider will return to competition this weekend in Sepang. Mir has spoken with the press about the symptoms he experienced, including vision problems and extreme fatigue, which affected him even before he stopped racing.
Before his break, his crashes had generated concern among fans and critics. Although he did not receive specific questions on this matter, he remarked that his medical condition had interfered with his performance without him being aware of it.
“Yes, totally,” Mir replied when asked if the illness had influenced his issues prior to the crashes. He also explained that his symptoms intensified as the San Marino Grand Prix approached, the last race he competed in before his absence.
Mir stated that the most concerning issues were his vision problems and severe fatigue. “Before Misano, I had already noticed these symptoms for a while, but that was when I started to lose control over them,” he pointed out.
Despite his absence, Mir commented that his passion for competing remains alive. “You feel that you always want to be part of the competition, but if you are not feeling well, it is counterproductive,” he concluded, warning about the risks of racing without being in optimal conditions.
