The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship is preparing for an exciting weekend at Road America, taking place from July 30 to August 2. This event, known as the Motul SportsCar Endurance Grand Prix, will turn into a six-hour race, participating in a new format that promises more action and competition.
Road America, an iconic circuit with a 70-year history, has traditionally been a venue for sprint races. This change in focus represents a new stage for the competition, as it is held during the fourth round of the five that make up the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup.
A total of 54 vehicles will compete on the 4.048-mile circuit with 14 turns, across four different categories: 11 Grand Touring Prototype (GTP), 12 Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2), 12 GT Daytona Pro (GTD PRO), and 19 GT Daytona (GTD).
The longer distance has attracted new participants. In the LMP2 category, teams like Era Motorsport and Intersport Racing will return. The GTD PRO category includes exclusive long-distance entrants such as Risi Competizione and Triarsi Competizione, while Car Blanche drops back to GTD after competing in GTD PRO at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
The championship battles are in full swing. In GTP, competitors are trying to catch the leading vehicle, the #31 Cadillac Whelen V-Series.R, which has achieved six consecutive podiums this year. In GTD PRO, the 2025 winners, Paul Miller Racing, maintain a 108-point lead, but competition for the second position is intense, with only 60 points separating the second and sixth places.
The LMP2 category is equally competitive, with only 113 points separating the top four teams. Recent podium occupiers, CrowdStrike Racing by APR and AO Racing, are part of the fight. In GTD, Eduardo “Dudu” Barrichello leads the standings in his #27 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo, defending his position after a tough race at CTMP.
