Ukyo Sasahara takes his second win of the season at Race 1 of Formula Renault 2.0 NEC at Nürburgring. From pole position the ART driver hold on the attacks of Delétraz who finished second ahead of team mate, Kevin Jörg.
Ukyo Sasahara started from pole position and thanks to a poor start from Louis Delétraz, the Japanese driver kept the top position followed by Delétraz and Jörg. Behind them Darius Oskoui (ART Junior Team) spun off after a contact with Stefan Riener.
Sasahara and Delétraz early on took a huge advantage over Jörg (Josef Kaufmann Racing), but when the rain came in the track for some laps, the safety car came in and the race started once again with 6 minutes to go.
The top3 kept his positions but behind them, Stefan Riener (Fortec Motorsports) overtook his teammate Jehan Daruvala (Fortec Motorsports) for fourth position.
At last lap the fight for sixth place was very hot. Ticktum (Koiranen GP) couldn’t hold back the attacks of Defourny (ART Junior Team) who quickly made some gap with the Red Bull racer.
Finally, victory for Ukyo Sasahara (ART Junior Team) at 10th round of the championship. The today’s race winner is now on second place in the standings thanks to this second win of the season. He’s 54 points behind Delétraz who finally finished second, as his teammate Kevin Jörg in third place of the podium is also third on the standings 56 behind Delétraz (Josef Kaufmann Racing).
Final fourth position for Riener as the best Fortec in Race 1. The Austrian finished in front of the best rookie of the race Jehan Daruvala. Sixth position for Defourny ahead of Ticktum and Mazepin (Josef Kaufmann Racing), as Zaruba (AVF) and Dries Vanthoor (Josef Kaufmann Racing) close the top 10 and points positions.
Good race also from Darius Oskoui after his crash at the start, he managed to comeback to 12th position. Colin Noble (MGR Motorsports) and Bruno Baptista (Koiranen GP) are the retirements of Race 1.
