Former F1 driver Nico Hulkenberg will make his ADAC GT Masters debut in Round 2 at Nurburgring where he will drive a Lamborghini Huracan.
Having left F1 at the end of the 2019 season, Hulkenberg has tested the ADAC GT Masters car for mcchip-dkr outfit in series of videos shared by them. He will now make his debut in the championship in Round 2 of the 2020 season at Nurburgring.
He will drive the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo as a guest starter in the championship during August 14-16 weekend, with the first round on September 30 – August 2 at Lausitzring. This will be the first competitive outing for Hulkenberg since 2019.
“The ADAC GT Masters is an exciting series with cool cars, and after a break of almost eight months, I’m really keen to get behind the wheel again and feel the adrenalin flow,” said Hulkenberg. “With the 2020 F1 at last having got underway, my fingers are twitching.
“To all rumour merchants out there, I’d like to make it quite clear that this guest start is to be interpreted as no more than a minor venture into GT sport. I’m really looking forward to the challenge, but I also know that we’ll have to stretch ourselves quite a bit to be competitive.”
Hulkenberg will share the Lamborghini with mcchip-dkr managing director Danny Kubasik, who will compete under the pseudonym ‘Dieter Schmidtmann’. “Because we are used to competing at a lower level of motorsport, the guest appearance in the ADAC GT Masters is a new chapter for us and a good opportunity to develop professionally as a team,” he said.
“Entry in one of the world’s most prestigious GT3 racing series makes us very proud. A big thank you to our partners Ravenol, Lamborghini Renazzo Motor and GTronix360°. We will be making a multi-part documentary for our fans showing the complete event, from the test days through to the races themselves, and uploading it to our YouTube channel.”
