Driver Jenson Button has shared his views on the current recovery of Lewis Hamilton, stating that his recent success is more attributable to improvements in Formula 1 cars that better fit his driving style than to his adaptation to Ferrari.
The current season has been positive for the seven-time world champion, who achieved his first podium as a Ferrari driver at the Chinese Grand Prix, followed by two second places in Canada and Monaco, culminating in a victory at the Barcelona-Catalonia Grand Prix.
After his transition to Ferrari at the beginning of the 2025 season, Hamilton faced some difficulties in adapting to the new team, but Button believes that his comfort with the team has not been the only determining factor. “The vehicles of this generation fit much better with his attributes as a driver,” Button explained.
Hamilton, who in his last years with Mercedes did not show his best level, seems to have regained his rhythm as he adapts better to the changes in the car. Button highlights that the functioning of the vehicle is crucial, more than just personal adaptations.
“The relationship with the engineer is vital, especially after leaving a figure like Peter Bonnington at Mercedes. It may take a little time to stabilize, but if the car suits his style, it’s a key factor for his success. Now the vehicle feels like more traditional Formula 1 cars,” he added.
