Lewis Hamilton doesn’t want to compare himself to what Michael Schumacher achieved with Ferrari, where he helped the team to get back up from slump.
When Schumacher joined Ferrari, the team needed that extra push and motivation to return to its glory form. It took the German few years, but together with the Italian manufacturer, he started a journey which ended up in seven F1 world championships in a dominant show.
Hamilton is joining Ferrari at a time when the Italian manufacturer looks not that bad in a shape when compared to Schumacher’s joining but the team hasn’t won any form of title since 2007. The Brit, though, doesn’t wish to compare his time with that of the German’s.
He sure feels the big moment about joining a team like Ferrari. “I mean, I’m not looking at comparing myself to Michael,” said Hamilton to media. “Not looking at that. At the moment, that’s not something that I’m thinking about. It’s all a big unknown for what’s up ahead. Obviously, massive excitement.
“And yeah, I can’t really add much more. I don’t have anything else to say about it. Of course it really sparks motivation and it’s a dream scenario for any driver to have an opportunity like this. So, don’t take that for granted. And I realise it’s a steep…I remember when I joined Mercedes, and it’s not an easy step to ever enter into a new team.
“And it takes time to build new relationships and learn the tools and everything. Coming into 2025 with that same focus, that same might that I had when I joined Mercedes and with ultimately that leap of faith, I think is exciting and exhilarating,” summed up Hamilton, who is now an official Ferrari driver, but we are yet to see him formally at Maranello yet.
