Red Bull’s Max Verstappen managed to beat Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas by 0.008s to lead FP2 of F1 French GP, with Lewis Hamilton in third.
After a bit of a downer FP1, Red Bull’s Verstappen (1m32.872s) had a better FP2 in F1 French GP, as he led the way from Mercedes’ Bottas (1m32.880s) by just the 0.008s. The Finn, though, had his best time on the medium after he was unable to improve on soft.
Hamilton did improve but was still third with a 1m33.125s lap time, while complaining the car to not be in a good shape. After a solid FP1 showing, Alpine continued to show its pace, with Fernando Alonso slotting in fourth with a 1m33.340s lap.
Teammate Esteban Ocon (1m33.685s) was sixth after he was pushed out of the Top 5 by Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc’s (1m33.550s) late quick lap. He led fellow Frenchman, AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly (1m33.696s), with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz (1m33.698s) in eighth.
It was a better run for Ferrari in FP2 – especially on their one lap pace – after finishing outside the Top 10 in FP1. The Top 10 was then rounded out by Alfa Romeo’s Kimi Raikkonen (1m33.786s) and McLaren’s Lando Norris (1m33.822s).
The other Alfa Romeo of Antonio Giovinazzi was 11th with Red Bull’s Sergio Perez only 12th where he couldn’t improve hugely on the soft run, likely running a lower power. AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda was 13th from McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo in 14th.
The two Aston Martin drivers were 15th and 16th, with Sebastian Vettel leading Lance Stroll, where they did not set a lap on the soft compound. The Williams pair slotted in 17th and 18th, where George Russell returned to lead ahead of the Canadian.
The Haas pair rounded out the 20 runners in FP2 of F1 French GP, where Mick Schumacher led Nikita Mazepin, who had a spin in the final corner early in the session. The Russian another off, much similar to Hamilton, Verstappen and few others – in fact, the Dutchman his front wing broken after running over the heavy sausage kerb.
