Fortescue Zero acquires Team Penske for the Gen4 era of Formula E

Fortescue Zero has announced the acquisition of the Team Penske team to participate in the 2026-27 season of Formula E. This decision will allow Fortescue to compete with two vehicles powered by Jaguar, along with the four already existing between the factory team and Envision.

This move marks the end of the Penske era in Formula E, a team that has been part of the competition since its inception in 2014. Penske has changed names several times, most recently competing as DS Penske from 2022 to 2026. However, the March announcement about DS’s withdrawal at the end of the 2025-26 season left the team’s future up in the air.

Gus Pichot, CEO of Fortescue, highlighted that the company will bring its innovative technologies to the track, stating that moving from the pit to the grid is a new chapter in their history in the world of motorsport. ‘We are here to compete, win, and innovate,’ Pichot declared.

The director of Jaguar, Ian James, also expressed his satisfaction with this new partnership, emphasizing that the entry of Fortescue Zero Racing will strengthen Jaguar’s presence on the Formula E grid and the commitment to technical innovation. With six vehicles powered by Jaguar ready to compete, the team is in a strong position to face the challenges of the new Gen4 era.

Currently, it has not yet been confirmed who will be the drivers for Fortescue after Maximilian Günther left DS Penske to join Envision, and the future of the other driver, Taylor Barnard, remains to be determined.
