The Formula 2 champion, Leonardo Fornaroli, has had the opportunity to test a Formula 1 car again thanks to the McLaren team. This is his third testing session with the MCL60 model, which corresponds to the 2023 specification.

Fornaroli, who was named McLaren’s reserve driver after winning the title in Formula 2, completed 112 laps at the Barcelona circuit last March, and added another 68 laps at the Silverstone circuit last month. This week, he participated in a new session at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, where he added 77 laps, equivalent to 425 km.

The circuit was selected as Fornaroli had attended the Canadian Grand Prix as a reserve driver last week. The variable temperature conditions added an extra challenge to his improved preparation.

According to statements from McLaren, the testing plan included long and short runs, as well as grid start practices. Fornaroli expressed his satisfaction with the experience, commenting that he feels more comfortable with the car and his team each time.

“It’s incredible to drive an F1 car. I’m grateful to McLaren for giving me this new opportunity. Each session helps me better understand what it takes to race,” Fornaroli said, who is already looking forward to his next chance to drive.
