The FIA Formula E Championship announced a good news amid the COVID-19 pandemic as they confirmed a contract extension for Rome EPrix.

Amid the gloom of COVID-19 pandemic, Formula E announced a good news that the Rome EPrix will be on the schedule through 2025, as it being here to stay for the next five seasons of the novel all-electric series.

One of the younger events on their calendar, the Rome EPrix had its first race in the 2017/2018 Formula E season, which was won by Envision Virgin’s Sam Bird. The second race at the circuit was held in wet conditions, where Jaguar’s Mitch Evans won.

With its unique layout, and interesting ‘jump’ feature which sees the cars fly just above the ground, the circuit has stolen the hearts of fans, creating chaos in both of the races its held. As such, the decision has been met well by fans.

“Rome is once again a key reference for Formula E and remains a key attraction for big events. When we exit the health emergency, we will need to come back much stronger than ever before,” said Virginia Raggi, the Mayor of Rome.

“Our city is ready for this challenge and the Italian capital will be the symbol of the series until 2025. This agreement will bring many investments in urban areas and make our collaboration much stronger.

“This is a contract that will offer Romans many benefits, which will help with starting again. Our city is very proud to be hosting the E-Prix – a sporting event pioneering sustainable ideas and innovative technologies.”

At the same time, Alejandro Agag added: “We are proud to announce such an important achievement and the start of a new long-term cooperation. We thank the Mayor of Rome Virginia Raggi and the whole administration for being able to make it happen.

“Italy is a strategic market for us, and we are determined to keep working with the country to grant a further growth of the championship, in terms of popularity and competitiveness. We have involved some of the biggest players in the industry to work together towards a gradual change in how electric mobility is perceived.

“This process will have major global consequences.” The 2019/20 Formula E race in Rome stands postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic with no guarantee that it will take place, if or when the racing resumes, once the Governments think it is safe enough.
