Formula 3 returns in 2025 with three days of pre-season testing in
Barcelona
The winter break is finally over with the teams and their drivers set to hit the track for the first time in 2025 at the Barcelona pre-season test.
The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will host the three-day event, where the new Formula 3 car will run for the first time ahead of the season-opener in Melbourne next month.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The three-day test will occur from February 19-21, with the drivers set to be out on track for a total of six hours each day at a familiar venue to the teams, helping them in their adaptation to the new F3 car.
The morning session on all three days will be from 09:00 to 12:00 local time. On Days 1 and 2, the afternoon action will resume at 14:00 before ending at 17:00.
However, on Day 3, there will be just an hour’s break between sessions, with the afternoon’s running set to kick off at 13:00 local time before the chequered flag is waved at 16:00. Additionally, Pirelli will be allocating eight sets of the Hard tyres to each drivers for the duration of the test.
THE FIELD

There will be 19 rookies taking part in the Barcelona test, 18 of which are already
confirmed to be racing this season, while Jonas Ried is confirmed only for testing
with AIX Racing. - Only one team on the grid will not be fielding a rookie, with Campos Racing’s Mari
Boya, Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak, and Nikola Tsolov all having previous Formula 3
experience. - There are currently 11 returnees from the 2024 grid, with MP Motorsport’s Tim
Tramnitz the highest-placed returning driver, having finished ninth in last year’s
Championship Standings.
CONTINUES - As things stand, there are 23 different countries being represented in the 2025
field. Singapore is set to feature on the F3 grid for the first time through DAMS Lucas
Oil driver Christian Ho. - There will be several rookies coming in with title-winning success. Ugo
Ugochukwu won the 2024 Macau World Cup, while Rafael Câmara was crowned the
2024 Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine Champion. Louis Sharp
became the latest GB3 Champion, and Tuukka Taponen won the Formula Regional
Middle East Championship title. - PREMA Racing will be eyeing a sixth Teams’ Championship this year, while
TRIDENT will be aiming for a third consecutive Drivers’ title.
