The FIA Race Directors’ note shares details of track limits, DRS zones, circuit changes and more for this weekend’s F1 British GP
As is given by the FIA Race Director for all of the events, the white lines denote track limits for this weekend’s F1 British GP at Silverstone. But there is an additional note for the drivers, where they have been asked to negotiate exit of Turn 18 properly to not loose lap times.
“Additionally, each time a driver fails to negotiate the exit of turn 18, will result in that lap time and the immediately following lap time may be invalidated by the Stewards,” said the FIA note. They have also given a lengthy instruction on practice start at pit exit, failing which will result in potential penalties.
They have made some significant changes to the kerbing from last year’s event, they are –
- Removed the kerb at Turn 1 runoff on the left-hand side.
- The gravel in the gravel trap at the exit of T18 has been changed to a lighter material.
- 1 red kerb element in Turn 1 (apex) replaced by a flat kerb element.
- 2 red kerb elements in Turn 6 (apex) replaced by a flat kerb element.
- 1 red kerb element in Turn 7 (apex) replaced by a flat kerb element.
- 3 red kerbs elements in Turn 9 (apex) replaced by a flat kerb element.
In terms of the DRS zones, the detection for the first is 25m before Turn 3 and activation is 30m after Turn 5. At the same time, the second detection zone is at Turn 11, while activation is at Turn 14. The FIA stewards panel will see Nish Shetty lead Mathieu Remmerie, Vitantonio Liuzzi and Richard Norbury.
Away from the FIA note, two F1 teams will run FP1 drivers this weekend, where Red Bull will field F2 racer Arvid Lindbald in place of Yuki Tsunoda, while Sauber will field Alpine reserve Paul Aron in place of Nico Hulkenberg, in line to fulfil its rookie demands as per the regulations.
Owing to F1’s 75th anniversary, Mercedes has joined the celebration by showcasing its past, present and future. They have made a small livery tweak on their car with the addition of orange. They have done the same with this weekend’s safety and medical cars, which will run the orange colour.
