The FIA has released details of the Bahrain International Circuit for the F1 Bahrain GP, along with some Sporting Regulations revision.

With Niels Wittich taking sole responsibility of being a FIA F1 Race Director from the 2023 season, his first note has similar touch to his earlier versions in 2022. The track limits is one of them where he mostly described it as the white lines.

It remains the same this year for F1 Bahrain GP. “In accordance with the provisions of Article 33.3, the white lines define the track edges. During Qualifying and the Race, each time a driver fails to negotiate with the track limits, this will result in that lap time being invalidated by the Stewards,” said the FIA Race Directors’ note.

There is no significant track changes made to the circuit from 2022, while the DRS zones remains the same with the first’s detection zone being 50m before Turn 1 and its activation being 23m  after Turn 3. The second’s detection zone is 10m before Turn 9.

Its activation is 50m after Turn 10, while the third’s detection zone is 110m before Turn 14 and activation is 250m after Turn 15.

Additionally, the FIA Race Directors’ reminded everyone of the new additions made on the Sporting and Technical Regulations ahead of the weekend. The former deals with how the F1 teams display changes on their cars to media and public.

In a bid to increase transparency and be more open to public, the FIA introduced a media session in the pitlane where the teams had to place their F1 cars in front of their garage and go through the changes they have brought for the specific weekend.

Teams bypassed this by not showing the car on which the parts were fitted for ‘testing’ in FP1. But the revised regulations asks the teams to use the car on which the new parts have been put up which will help the media and public to know the exact updates made.

Additionally, the power unit manufacturers will now have to show up and give a presentation to the media in at least one event. Here’s the Article 19.2 with the new addition/changes mentioned in bold –

a) Each Competitor must make both of its cars available outside their designated garage area for the pre-event car display for a period of up to one (1) hour, which will commence no later than one and a half (1.5) hours prior to the start of P1.

i) Each car must be nominally complete and fitted with all major aerodynamic and bodywork components that are intended to be used when the car leaves the pit lane for the first time in P1.

ii) During this period, each car must be positioned as determined by the Media Delegate and one (1) car may be used for pit-stop practice or electronic / optical scanning of its surfaces. If only one car will carry the major aerodynamic and bodywork components and assemblies that have not been run at a previous Competition or TCC and are intended to be run at the Competition, this car must be the one displayed to media.

iii) Exceptions to the pre-event car display will be permitted with prior written approval of the Technical Delegate.

b) Each registered Power Unit Manufacturer must be available at one (1) Competition during the season to give a media presentation for a duration of at least 30 minutes. The Power Unit Manufacturer will be notified of the event at which it must give the presentation by the Media Delegate not later than four (4) weeks in advance.
