F1 has announced the return of IMG to the sport after signing a deal where they will facilitate the broadcast of races on-flight and in cruise ships.
With the advancement of technology, regular live broadcast has become a bit more easy for events around the globe especially the sporting ones. It is not the first time that F1 will be broadcasted live in-flight, but for the whole season, it is something new.
F1 has signed a deal with IMG, who makes a return to the sport in 2023. The contract runs until the 2025 season which will see IMG’s Sport 24 and Sport 24 Extra to broadcast live races on flight and also on cruise ships while in motion.
In fact, they will broadcast 150 hours of live coverage and also highlights. The two channels are available on airlines like Etihad Airways, Emirates, Turkish Airlines and cruise ships like MSC Cruises, Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean, and Silversea.
“As Formula 1 continues to grow around the world, we are excited that we can now broadcast Formula 1 live in-ship and inflight to travelling fans,” said Michaella Snoeck. “The last few seasons have shown that the drama and excitement of Formula 1 is not to be missed. Now, together with Sport 24, fans will be able to enjoy the spectacle of F1 wherever they are.”
At the same time, Richard Wise, SVP, Content and Channels at IMG Media, added: “We are delighted to bring Formula 1 back to Sport 24. This exciting deal means passengers no longer have to miss out on all the exciting Formula 1 action when they travel.
