Scuderia Ferrari has released a statement whereby they state that they will adhere to the Italian Government’s decision but adds F1 Australian GP is on schedule.
The Italian Government is to take strict measures to disallow movement within Lombardy region and its 11 province, which includes Modena where Ferrari is based. It is likely to affect AlphaTauri, Pirelli and other personnel from the region.
The travel for F1 Australian GP already started on Saturday and is ongoing as Ferrari states that – for now – everything is going as per the plan. But it adds that the team will adhere to the Italian Government’s decision when they ask them to.
The idea is for a China-like quarantine to disallow the spread of COVID-19 which has crippled Northern Italy. While it looks like the team is able to travel to Australia, the arrangements for Bahrain and Vietnam remains unknown.
The statement from Ferrari stated: “Following measures announced by the Italian Government last night, we are monitoring and evaluating the situation and are in close contact with the relevant authorities and all organisations involved.
“For Ferrari, compliance with the Government regulations represents the primary guarantee for ensuring the safety of its employees and their families which is our priority. Every single decision will be made with respect to this principle.
“Part of the team and equipment have already arrived in Melbourne and the departures for the remaining members of the team are going ahead as programmed unless we receive communications to the contrary.”
It is an evolving situation with the COVID-19 outbreak. We can already check on social media that several are on their way to Melbourne and a lot have reached the venue as well. The Australian GP looks very much on unless a last-minute situation develops.
Bahrain GP have curbed fans from entering the venue and are going ahead but the stance may change as well. There is no word from Vietnam GP, though, with certain reports stating that a likely decision will be taken on March 11.
