Zhou Guanyu will make his return to Scuderia Ferrari as its reserve for 2025 F1 season alongside Antonio Giovinazzi.

Having been part of the Ferrari driver academy between 2015 and 2018, Guanyu will make his return to the Italian manufacturer fold for 2025 F1 season as one of its reserve drivers. The Chinese driver was linked heavily to the role at the fag end of 2024.

Since his Ferrari days, Guanyu has had stints with Alpine and Sauber, which includes a F1 run with the latter for three seasons. After he was not retained by the Swiss outfit, the Chinese racer looked at various options, primarily focusing on a reserve role.

He didn’t focus as much on the racing side, especially in different championships, with the idea to make a return in 2026 or beyond. It remains to be seen if Guanyu is handed any race programme by Ferrari, who competes in various championships.

Guanyu will share the reserve duties with Giovinazzi, who has a full-time drive with Ferrari in WEC. The Italian has been part of the family since 2017 and recently got to drive the SF-23 during a Testing Previous Cars programme in Barcelona.
